Hi there,
I can’t lie. It’s been a lot of fun "Killing the Bill(able hour)."
Bold yellow swag donned by some of our clients with all the conviction of a Liverpool fan (you know who you are! 🤔 ).
Sword-swinging Uma Thurman joining us at CLOC. 🤺
The limited socks 🧦 (that I somehow never got a pair of!!).
Still, even great campaigns eventually run their course.
And sadly (at least for me), it’s time to bring the official Kill Bill(able) Hours campaign to an end, including how you’ve experienced our newsletter to this point.
But “Why!? And I still haven’t gotten my yellow shirt!”
No, the Kill Bill(ables) haters didn’t get their way (believe me, we’ve heard from you).
It’s not because our lawyers told us to. 🤔
Or, because my team decided they looked washed out in yellow.
For the record, you’ll likely still find us both donning and dolling out yellow apparel at our next event.
So now what?
When I started PERSUIT, my hope was that we would have a positive impact on the legal profession as a whole.
Calling out the systemic wrongs of the billable hour system is (and will continue to be) part of that mission.
✅ The incredibly long hours.
✅ The impact on mental health.
✅ The dearth of diversity in the profession.
✅ The pseudo-pyramid scheme built on the backs of junior associates who live their lives in 6-minute increments.
Like it or not, the legal profession is changing.
In a world where AI-enabled tools empower firms to deliver in minutes what used to take hours — time simply cannot continue as the currency of value in the legal profession.
(And for a deeper dive on why the industry is in for a shock, you really should check out our latest podcast recording with PERSUIT's Senior Legal Advisory expert, Maui Gevero.)
AI is rapidly driving the change we’ve been championing for years here at PERSUIT.
Outcomes — not hours — will be the currency of value in the future world of legal (although it will admittedly take some time for everyone to “get the memo”).
So where do we go from here?
The PERSUIT
It’s a good question.
PERSUIT hasn’t ever been about a destination — fame, fortune, or IPO (OK, if I’m honest, maybe just a little bit of fame would be nice 🤷♂️ ).
It’s our dedication to outcomes, transparency, and keeping our clients at the heart of everything we do that sets us apart from — well, from what we hear, most everyone.
So we asked ourselves:
What do legal leaders really need in their persuit pursuit of a better future for legal?
And that’s exactly what you’ll find in your inbox next week, a brand new newsletter we’re calling, “The PERSUIT.”
Fear not…
It’ll still be yellow 🟡.
It’ll still have some thoughts from me about trends and happenings in the industry. 🧠
But also…
In the coming weeks and months, we’ll start adding new features to this newsletter, as well.
- Regular dives into our proprietary internal data 📊 about trends within legal services — pricing, diversity, AFA usage, and more.
- Perspectives and insights from other of our PERSUIT talent (believe me, it puts some of my stuff to shame).
- More opportunities to tell us what YOU the reader want to see more of in future data reports, webinars, and other resources.
I could tell you more. But I don’t want to ruin some of the surprises we have in the works. 😄
I look forward to continuing this journey with you as we move forward.
Cheers,
